Impatiently I waited in expectation of the spark that once I may have been
but that may never have been there at all, quietly I waited to catch fire
Such impatience requires long night spent awake, dedicated to waiting.
(There is not only dedication in patience.)
Patiently I waited at windows, at the roadside, on trains, standing
on their platforms, counting them down. Patiently in waiting rooms
pleasantly I waited, arranging magazines, arranging my limbs
into casual, patient places. Impatient with my weight, I had been
so impatient to disappear. For years, I was a patient.
(Hospitals are dedicated to the well-being of their patients.)
I met you first when I needed to.
I met you second when I needed you.
I met you last night but I need you now.
(Repeat as needed).
